Skunk trapping requires some skill, patience and experience. There are some things you must know when trying to trap nuisance skunks from your home. Its not as simple as buying a live trap and filling it full of bait, then waiting for the skunk to enter the trap. We take pride in catching all of your nuisance skunks in a timely fashion but sometimes it does take patience. We always go for the target animal and never charge for non targeted animals. Trapping skunk requires some knowledge to catch the wanted skunk from their disturbance areas.
Just like most wildlife we trap and relocate skunks as well. Once the animal is trapped, we use a tarp to lay over the trap so it calms the animal so we don't get sprayed. Lids on trash cans, barriers around decks, and grub free lawns will keep skunks away. Note: If sprayed by a skunk apply peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap mixed together. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. You may have to apply a few times. You can also try the oldest trick in the book, bathing in tomato juice.
Skunks are very recognizable with their black and white fur. Skunks will generally live under decks and in dens or holes. Skunks eat grubs and other insects beneath your sod. They will also rummage through your garbage looking for food. Skunks are near sighted and nearly blind. The maneuver using their sense of smell. Their first line of defense is to spray an awful musky oil from scent glands around their anus. Skunks can spray over 10 feet. When threatened skunks will stomp their front feet and raise their tail. Back away slowly!
Skunk trapping is the best and really only method to get rid of them. Charging for skunk trapping is much like trapping raccoon's, squirrels, or feral cats. We charge a set up fee/inspection to come out to your home to survey the property and strategically set traps. Depending on the location of your home you may expect to pay an inspection fee of $90-$125. Typically for skunks we charge a per animal cost or we may charge a per trip charge. Per animal cost could be anywhere from $60-$100 depending on the placement of the traps and location of your property. Trip charges depend on the location of your property.
